The Critical Role of Communication in Climate Change
Bandar Lampung – Taking place in B Building of FISIP Unila, the Department of Communication Studies hosted a Stadium Generale under the theme of Climate Change Adaptations and Communication: Emerging Research and Opportunity, on Monday (28/08/2023).
The seminar was well attended by the experts in development communication, Prof. Dr. Alexander G. Flor from the University of the Philippines Open University and Dr. Benjamina P. Flor from the University of the Philippines Los Banos.
The activity is a routine annual activity organized by the Department of Communication Studies in order to provide an international standard of education. The event lasted for approximately three hours, with around 350 enthusiastic participants joining the series of activities both offline and online.
In his lecture, Prof. Alexander said that Gen Z nowadays does not fully value environmental issues, therefore it requires a lot of consideration from other fields, particularly for communication students.
Climate change is a collective responsibility. The field of communication studies is not only focused on the formulation of messages but also on how these messages are transmitted between generations. Prof. Benjamina emphasized that if we do not talk about environmental issues, then awareness will not be raised. Therefore, this problem is a shared responsibility of all people in order to preserve the sustainability of the environment from generation to generation.
This activity was also aired live on Unila TV and YouTube channel of the Department of Communication Studies FISIP Unila.
